I spent the extra money on the Sony speakers because I thought their materials/build quality would hold up better in the harsh marine environment, but after about a month on our 38 foot catamaran these speakers started to rust! Gradually a brown streak stained the speaker from the center cone to the bottom, leaching onto the fiberglass underneath it. While they still worked, I was surprised that a Sony product would start to degrade as fast as it did. Maybe it’s impossible to build a speaker that won’t do this, but in that case they should come in the color brown… Oh, the sound was great, so they still get two stars.

I have used Sony equipment for many years and it is always medium to good quality. However, buying these speakers from an Amazon vendor was a truly awful experience. I initially got a great buy on them, only to be sent an e-mail from Amazon two weeks later stating that the vendor didn’t have any in stock. When I initially ordered them, he had plenty in stock and accepted my payment. My money was returned, but I’d already scheduled their installation in my boat, which I had to cancel, not to mention having to reorder the speakers from another (NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AMAZON) vendor. I will be very wary of doing business again through Amazon. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!
